The statistics have been cited following a survey of 2,000 women, revealing some interesting results.
The survey showed that most women wear less than half the jewellery they own and that the value of the average jewellery collection grows by £2,000 every decade.
That means the average 60-year-old woman can expect her collection to be worth around £10,000 while a 30-year-old’s collection is likely to be worth around half that.
Other facts to emerge from the study include that the single most expensive piece of jewellery owned by any woman is likely to be an engagement ring, while two thirds of women own diamonds by the age of 40.
It also revealed how only a third of women are likely to have bought their most expensive piece of jewellery for themselves.
