Gold and Enamel Beetle Form Watch on Chain
A fine late 19th Century Swiss gold and enamel brooch watch in the form of a beetle. Oval keyless gilt bar movement under a glazed bezel. Going barrel, frosted steel wolf’s teeth winding wheels. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Small white enamel dial with black Arabic numerals, the twelve marked in red, gilt hands. Fine gold and enamel case in the form of a beetle, the gold wings of translucent light blue enamel over an engine turned ground and set with diamonds. The wings opened by depressing a button in the tail to reveal the dial. Diamond set chased and engraved head, the eyes represented by two small rubies, small gilt winding crown. The underside of the beetle realistically portrayed with finely chased and engraved legs applied to the hinged cover. Inside the cover an oval glazed frame for a miniature portrait. Gold and enamel loop for the long rope chain. Fitted presentation case covered in light grey suede.

A late 19th Century Danish five minute repeating lever by Jules Jurgensen with patent hand set in a gold full hunter case. High quality keyless nickelled bar movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement, escape and lever pivots with endstones in gold settings. Slide five minute repeating on two polished steel gongs, repeating train and hammers fully jewelled. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel Breguet hands. Plain 18 carat full hunter case, gold slide in the band. Glazed hinged cuvette, dedication inside the back cover dated June1878. Gold bow for Jurgensen’s patent hand set.

A late 19th Century English fusee lever with 24 hour dial in a silver open face case. Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement with dust cover. Harrison’s maintaining power. Engraved cock with diamond endstone, polished steel regulator. Compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. English table roller lever escapement. Unusual white enamel dial marked for twenty four hours in Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds, gilt hands. Engine turned silver open face case with ribbed middle., maker’s mark “TW” in a rectangle and number corresponding to that on the movement.

Large Silver Patent 8 Day Swiss Lever
A very large late 19th Century Swiss lever watch of 8 days duration in a silver open face case and travelling case. Reversed three quarter plate gilt keyless movement. Compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Polished steel index adjusted by removing the front bezel. Club tooth straight line lever escapement. Opening the back single cover reveals an open centrally placed barrel with a visible blue steel mainspring under a glass, almost the diameter of the movement, wound by a folding key. In the centre a brass thumb wheel is used to set the hands. Large white enamel dial with bold Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Substantial large plain silver open face case, maker's mark “HG” in an oval. In a fitted red morocco case lined with velvet, signs of an easel stand, now lacking.
Jacot and Bovet took out the Swiss patent for this mechanism (No 496) in February 1896. Although the hallmark pre-dates the patent, the case is undoubtedly original to the movement. Plain cock with blue steel regulator, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. White enamel dial with a monochrome view over Lake Geneva depicting the bridge and buildings on the far bank., mountains in the background. Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Heavy circular brass case suitable for use as a paperweight and also with sliding dovetail mount to enable the clock to be hung on the wall. Very thick bevelled flat glass.

A fine late 19th Century Swiss cylinder ball watch and matching chain. Unusual keyless gilt movement constructed with the train wheels above the going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Small white enamel dial with blue Arabic numerals, the 12 o'clock marking in red, gilt minute markings and hands. The case is constructed in three parts, the gold middle with applied gold bead decoration. The two gold hemispheres with applied gold wire decoration. Gold hand set button and ring pendant. The watch is wound and set by turning the top hemisphere of the case in relation to the lower hemisphere. Black fabric cord with gilt fastener.

Horn Singing Bird Box
A late 19th Century French automated singing bird in a polished horn box. Brass going barrel movement keywound through the base. Small bellows and piston mechanism provides air to a variable whistle to mimic birdsong operated by a system of cams and levers. The bird covered with multi-coloured feathered plumage, iridescent highlights to bib and wings. Moving the gilt lateral slide on the front of the box causes the oval lid to open and the bird to hinge into an upright position, rising through chased and pierced gilt grille. While playing the automated bird moves its bone beak, flaps its wings and moves from side-to-side, synchronised to the continuous birdsong. Polished horn box, a compartment at the back with a hinged horn lid. Oval gilt hinged cover to the bird engraved with a bird in a foliate engraved border.
