Rare Pull Wind Gold English Duplex

A rare 19^th Century English pull wind duplex in a gold open face case. Keywind gilt Lepine calibre bar movement. Suspended going barrel, polished steel Geneva stopwork. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, garnet endstone. Plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Duplex escapement. Silver dial with radial engine turning, subsidiary seconds offset at three o’clock, Roman numerals, blue steel Breguet hands. Slim 18 carat open face case, engine turned middle and back with vacant circular cartouche. Gold pendant with a flat gold cap on top of a polished steel shaft. Pulling this out winds the barrel arbor about a sixth of a turn. Hands set through the plain gold cuvette, additional small hole for the winding square. To wind the watch with a key would require opening the cuvette, maker’s mark “PM”.

Signed and numbered suspended going barrel, polished steel Geneva stopwork partly under a gilt cover. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, diamond endstone. Plain three arm gold balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Duplex escapement, escape wheel pivots with endstones. Silver dial with decoratively engraved centre, subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Engine turned 18 carat open face case, engraved initials to the circular cartouche on the back, ribbed middle. Wound through the signed and numbered gold cuvette which is engraved with a dedication inside. Number corresponding to that on the movement, maker’s mark “CAP”, additionally “IMC”.

Fusee and chain, Harrison’s maintaining power. Plain cock with diamond endstone in a blue steel setting, compensation balance. The blue steel spiral hairspring fixed by a polished steel resilient stud screws to the plate on a small gilt block. Earnshaw type spring detent escapement (detent foot repaired), escape pivots with endstones. White enamel dial with subsidiary Roman numerals, blue steel Breguet hands. Plain 18 carat open face drum shaped case with engine turned middle, maker’s mark “LC” in an oval.

Enamelled Silver Gilt Chinese Market Pocket Watch

A mid 19^th Century centre seconds duplex made for the Chinese market in a pearl set silver gilt and enamelled open face case. Keywind gilt bar movement with richly engraved bridges and suspended going barrel, blue steel stop work and screws. Engraved sector cock with garnet endstone, polished steel regulator. Five arm polished steel balance. Duplex escapement, brass escape wheel, pivots with endstones. White enamel dial with centre seconds, slender Roman numerals, gilt hands. Unusual silver gilt open face case, the front bezel, front of the oval pendant and bow set with split pearls. On the reverse the bezel, pendant and bow are decorated with blue champleve enamel. The back of a finely painted polychrome enamel portrait of a young lady on a blue background. Wound and set through the sprung gilt cuvette.

A very well executed portrait on an unusual case. In excellent overall condition

Fine Gold Pearl Set Watch and Pendant

A mid 19^th Century Swiss cylinder in a fine gold case encrusted with split pearls with matching pendant. Unusual gilt three quarter plate keywind movement with resting barrel. Sector shaped cock with polished steel regulator and coqueret set with a garnet endstone. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Fine engine turned gold dial, the Roman numerals and minute marking set with split pearls, gold hands. Very fine open face encrusted with split pearls, sprung front bezel opened by depressing a button in the pendant. The back entirely covered in split pearls in a pattern radiating in a cluster of pearls below the pendant. Set in a series of graduated rows from 0.7 mm to 3.5 mm at the edge. The space between the large split pearls filled with small pearls. Front bezel set with a single row of large split pears each surrounded by more split pearls. Gold pendant also encrusted with split pearls, pearl set gold bow. Matching gold pin and bar with heart shaped centre supporting a spring clip all set with graduated split pearls. Large gold oval key with engine turned centre. In fitted gilt tooled red morocco covered case marked “No. 5050” from the retailer Desoutter of Hanover Street, London.
