Description

An early 19th Century Swiss verge in an unusual pearl set gold and enamel form watch.  Very small (19 mm) full plate gilt fusee movement.  Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  Silver regulator dial with gilt indicator.  Winding through the white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, blue steel hands.  Unusual gold and enamel case in the form of an egg shaped urn standing on a circular base.  The watch in the lower section of the gold base set with a row of split pearls.  Standing on a flat gold plate line engine turned and decoratively engraved.  The gold body of the base covered with restored champleve light blue enamel with white, red and ochre floral enamel decoration. Inside the base a polished steel, partly rusted, mirror in an engraved gold frame.  Gold and enamel urn in black, white and green champleve enamel, a row of split pearls around the centre.  Small rectangular gold handles, the sprung top half opened by depressing a small button.  In a fitted red morocco covered case lined with beige velvet and silk.
