Silver Pair Cased Verge with Named Dial

£850.00

An early 19th Century English verge with the owner's name on the dial in silver pair cases.  Full plate fusee movement with round pillars.  Pierced and engraved round cock, engraved gilt plate for the silver regulator disc.  Plain three arm steel balance. Fine white enamel dial, the original owner's name, "JACOB USILL", replacing the hour markings with the exception of twelve and six in Arabic minute numerals.  Fine pierced gold  hands.  Matching silver pair cases, silver pendant and bow, maker's mark "TC" in a rectangle.

A good original watch in untouched condition.  Two watchpapers, one from a jeweller in Wisbech, the other from Long Sutton, a nearby town.  Watches bearing the owner's name on the dial are not common.  Casemaker Thomas Carpenter, 5 Islington Road.
