Rare Gunmetal Hebrew Dial Watch

£850.00

A rare early 20th Century Swiss lever with reversed seconds hand and Hebrew dial in a gunmetal case.  Unusual gilt three quarter plate keyless movement, the escapement reversed and shortened train. Oversized going barrel.  Plain cock with steel regulator, uncut bimetallic balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Club foot lever escapement.  White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Hebrew numerals.  Decorative pierced gilt hands for hours and minutes turning clockwise as usual.  The gilt subsidiary seconds hand turning counter clockwise reflecting the reading direction of Hebrew script .  Plain gunmetal open face case with gilt bezel, hinge, thumb piece, winding button and bow, "Exact"maker's mark.

An interesting watch.  To allow the seconds hand to travel in the opposite direction the movement has been specially constructed omitting a train wheel, reversing the escape wheel and using a large barrel.  This has necessitated offsetting the centre wheel and using motion work under the dial to drive the hands.
