Description

A late 18th Century English verge with polychrome enamel dial in silver pair cases.  Full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars.  Pierced and engraved cock, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc.  Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates.  Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring.  Fine  white enamel dial, central polychrome enamel scene of a hare being hunted.  Narrow chapter of  Roman and Arabic numerals, gold heart shaped hands.  Matching silver pair cases, silver pendant and bow, maker's mark “IR” and number corresponding to that on the movement.

In excellent overall condition.  An interesting feature of this watch is the frequent use of its number.  In addition to being engraved with the signature it is repeated by being stamped in the inner case and scratched on the face of the outer case bezel.  It is also stamped on the pillar plate and partially on components.  Most remarkably it is fired into the enamel on the back of the dial.
