A fine late 18th Century English quarter repeating verge in decorative gold pair cases.

Description

A fine late 18th Century English quarter repeating verge in decorative gold pair cases.  Full plate fire gilt movement with signed and numbered gilt dust cover.  Pierced and engraved cock with diamond endstone in a polished steel setting, silver regulator disc.  Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring.  Push pendant quarter repeating on a bell in the case.  Signed white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, gold beetle and poker hands.  Fine 22 carat gold pair cases.  Inner case with foliate pierced and engraved decoration around the edge, engraved depiction of a bird on the back and a grotesque mask at the base.  Gold push pendant and bow.  Unusual Adam style outer case simply pierced around the edge of the back, the centre finely chased and engraved with an oval cartouche.

An attractive watch in excellent overall condition.  Spencer and Perkins (Snow Hill) 1765 – 1806 are also known for the pedometers they produced mainly in shagreen covered cases
