A 20th Century English lever by Rotherhams in a 9 carat gold half hunter case with original presentation box. Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. English table roller lever escapement, escape and lever pivots with endstones in a gold setting. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel half hunter hands. Plain 9 carat half hunter case with blue enamel chapter ring, plain gold cuvette and bow, maker's mark "R&S" in a diamond. Gilt tooled red morocco presentation case marked for the retailer "E Lenton & Son - 189 High St, Clapham S.W - Est 1869"
In excellent overall condition, perhaps never used. Casemaker Rotherham & Sons, Watch Manufacturer, 4 Spon Street, Coventry. Rotherhams trace their roots back to Samuel Vale in about 1750. As Vale and Rotheram they supplied retailers with watches from the late 18th Century. They continued making watches until the late 1930s but did not resume manufacturing them after the war.
