Gold and Enamel Ball Watch and Chain
£3,750.00
A fine late 19th Century Swiss lever gold and enamelled ball watch with matching necklace. Unusual keyless gilt movement constructed on three tiers with the train wheels above the going barrel. Plain sector cock with polished steel regulator. Compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Club foot right angle lever escapement. Small white enamel dial with blue Arabic numerals, the 12 o'clock marking in red, gilt minute markings and hands. Gold and enamel ball case, the two gold hemispheres of translucent dark blue enamel with white and gilt decoration. The watch is wound and set by turning the top hemisphere of the case in relation to the lower hemisphere. Long (650 mm around the neck) gold necklace, sections of fine chain alternating with tapered batons of translucent dark blue enamel over an engine turned ground with white enamel bands in the centre. Neatly fitted in a cream velvet lined presentation box covered in gilt decorated red morocco. Double opening doors signed for the retailer "Carrington & Co, Regent Street"
A good example of a keyless ball watch. This is smaller than the standard and also benefits from having its original long gold and enamel necklace.
