Gilt Pair Cased Verge by Arnold

£2,700.00

An early 19th Century English verge by John Roger Arnold in gilt pair cases.  Full plate fire gilt fusee movement, gilt dust ring secured by two blue steel screws.  Pierced and engraved masked cock with diamond endstone, engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hand, gold hands.  Gilt metal pair cases, inner with lateral polished steel stop lever, maker's mark "RG" in a rectangle.

Well known alongside his father for manufacturing precision chronometers John Roger Arnold made very few watches with verge escapements.  Although the escapement is not capable of very accurate timekeeping this watch still exhibits the high class finish and attention to detail found in his other work.
