Double Sided Gold French Cylinder
£4,750.00
An unusual late 18th Century French cylinder double dial calendar in a gold consular case. Full plate gilt keywind movement, resting barrel with stopwork. Plain curved bridge cock, polished steel coqueret. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, large brass escape wheel. Signed white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, gold hands. On the reverse a small white enamel dial of Arabic numerals for the date bordered by a single row of small split pearls within a surround of gilt decorated dark blue translucent enamel over an engine turned ground. Gold double sided case, bezels set with two colour gold rope decoration. Gold pendant and bow, glazed on both sides.
An attractive and unusual watch. The calendar changes automatically every day. The pawl for this is mounted directly on the double ended centre pinion. It will therefore advance the date only when the watch runs and not when advancing the hands.
