A 19^th Century Lepine calibre duplex by McCabe in a gold open face case. Keywind gilt Lepine calibre bar movement. Signed and numbered suspended going barrel, polished steel Geneva stopwork partly under a gilt cover. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, diamond endstone. Plain three arm gold balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Duplex escapement, escape wheel pivots with endstones. Silver dial with decoratively engraved centre, subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Engine turned 18 carat open face case, engraved initials to the circular cartouche on the back, ribbed middle. Wound through the signed and numbered gold cuvette which is engraved with a dedication inside. Number corresponding to that on the movement, maker’s mark “CAP”, additionally “IMC”.

A 19^th Century English spring detent chronometer with resilient stud in a gold open face case. Gilt half plate keywind movement, the train with six spoke crossings. Fusee and chain, Harrison’s maintaining power. Plain cock with diamond endstone in a blue steel setting, compensation balance. The blue steel spiral hairspring fixed by a polished steel resilient stud screws to the plate on a small gilt block. Earnshaw type spring detent escapement (detent foot repaired), escape pivots with endstones. White enamel dial with subsidiary Roman numerals, blue steel Breguet hands. Plain 18 carat open face drum shaped case with engine turned middle, maker’s mark “LC” in an oval.

Fine Gold Pearl Set Watch and Pendant

A mid 19^th Century Swiss cylinder in a fine gold case encrusted with split pearls with matching pendant. Unusual gilt three quarter plate keywind movement with resting barrel. Sector shaped cock with polished steel regulator and coqueret set with a garnet endstone. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Fine engine turned gold dial, the Roman numerals and minute marking set with split pearls, gold hands. Very fine open face encrusted with split pearls, sprung front bezel opened by depressing a button in the pendant. The back entirely covered in split pearls in a pattern radiating in a cluster of pearls below the pendant. Set in a series of graduated rows from 0.7 mm to 3.5 mm at the edge. The space between the large split pearls filled with small pearls. Front bezel set with a single row of large split pears each surrounded by more split pearls. Gold pendant also encrusted with split pearls, pearl set gold bow. Matching gold pin and bar with heart shaped centre supporting a spring clip all set with graduated split pearls. Large gold oval key with engine turned centre. In fitted gilt tooled red morocco covered case marked “No. 5050” from the retailer Desoutter of Hanover Street, London.

Rare Gold Pocket Chronometer by Eiffe

A very rare chronometer with Eiffe’s auxiliary temperature compensation is a gold open face case. Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement with blue steel Harrison’s maintaining power. Engraved gilt barrel bridge with polished steel ratchet, click and spring. Engraved cock with diamond endstone, screwed to the table Eiffe’s auxiliary temperature compensation device. Unusual heavy compensation balance, the timing nuts on the inside of the rim. The bimetallic rims "D" shaped in section and the steel blued. Sections of the rim slotted to allow the screws to be held securely. Freesprung blue steel helical hairspring. Earnshaw type spring detent chronometer escapement, jewelled impulse pallet. Screwed in jewelling, escape pivots with endstones. Unusually the centre pinion is jewelled in the pillar plate but a plain brass bush in the top plate. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiaries for power reserve and seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hand, gold hands with heart shaped tips. Substantial plain 18 carat open face case, maker’s mark "SC" in a rectangle.

Rare Tic-Tac Escapement Alarm

A very rare mid 19^th Century tic-tac escapement alarm in a nickle drum case. Unusual full plate brass movement with a single barrel powering both the alarm and going trains. Plain cock with blue steel coqueret, plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring set in a circular aperture in the plate. Very rare tic-tac escapement where the English lever escape wheel acts directly on a polished steel roller on the balance staff. The tooth of the escape wheel rests on the roller for most of the vibration, giving impulse only in one direction as a slot in it passes. Single hammer for the alarm striking on the side of the case which acts as a rudimentary bell. Silvered dial with black waxed Roman numerals. Central alarm disk with waxed pointer, thumb piece at the back for adjustment. Single blue steel hand for the hours only. Nickle drum case with fixed glass. Outer morocco slip travelling case, the top apparently lost.

A very rare form of escapement. It is surprising to find it used in a travelling alarm
