A 19^th Century English verge in silver half hunter pair cases. Full plate fire gilt fusee movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved masked cock, engraved gilt plate, blue steel disc for regulation, with the index on the top plate. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Half hunter style white enamel dial with two concentric chapters of Roman numerals, only the inner chapter visible unless the front cover is opened. Gold half hunter hands. Matching silver pair cases, the inner with a broad border to the front bezel, small glazed aperture at the centre. Silver oval pendant and bow, maker’s mark “V.R” in an oval.

An early 19^th Century Massey type five lever in a silver open face case. Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement with gilt dust cover. Harrison’s maintaining power. Chased and engraved cock with diamond endstone, a representation of an eagle on the table, marked “Detached” on the foot. Plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring, blue steel Bosley regulator. Massey type five lever escapement, large screwed in jewelling. Off white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Purpose made silver open face case hallmarked London 1865. Faded engine turned back, ribbed middle, the inner dome engraved “James Dick – 1867”. Lateral blue steel stop lever, maker’s mark “R.O” and number corresponding to that on the movement.

Rare Pull Wind Gold English Duplex

A rare 19^th Century English pull wind duplex in a gold open face case. Keywind gilt Lepine calibre bar movement. Suspended going barrel, polished steel Geneva stopwork. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, garnet endstone. Plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Duplex escapement. Silver dial with radial engine turning, subsidiary seconds offset at three o’clock, Roman numerals, blue steel Breguet hands. Slim 18 carat open face case, engine turned middle and back with vacant circular cartouche. Gold pendant with a flat gold cap on top of a polished steel shaft. Pulling this out winds the barrel arbor about a sixth of a turn. Hands set through the plain gold cuvette, additional small hole for the winding square. To wind the watch with a key would require opening the cuvette, maker’s mark “PM”.

Engine turned 18 carat open face case, engraved initials to the circular cartouche on the back, ribbed middle. Wound through the signed and numbered gold cuvette which is engraved with a dedication inside. Number corresponding to that on the movement, maker’s mark “CAP”, additionally “IMC”.

Plain brass cock, diamond endstone, two arm compensation balance with two circular weights and two timing nuts, Airy’s bar with two smaller circular weights resting against the rim. Freesprung palladium helical hairspring. Earnshaw spring detent escapement, escape pivots with endstones. The movement secured to the gilt dial plate by three blue steel screws. Engraved signed and numbered silvered brass dial with subsidiaries for seconds and power reserve indication. Broad Ministry arrow in the seconds subsidiary, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Signed and numbered turned brass bowl, sprung hinged dust cover to the winding aperture. Screw brass bezel with flat glass. Brass gimbals and locking mechanism, numbered brass ratchet key. Two tier mahogany box, the top lid having been removed in common with most Ministry marine chronometers. Signed and numbered circular plaque with the broad Ministry arrow, folding brass handles.

The chapter ring on the front cover in light pink translucent enamel over an engine turned ground, dark blue Roman numerals. Around the chapter a border of blue forget-me-nots. The back cover similarly decorated, centred with a polychrome bouquet of flowers. Signed and numbered gold cuvette, maker’s mark “PP & Co” in a rectangle.
