An 18^th Century French verge in a chased and engraved gold consular case. Full plate gilt fusee movement. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Pentagonal baluster pillars. Wound through the white enamel dial Roman and Arabic numerals, decorative pierced gold hands. Fine 18 carat gold consular case the back engraved with flags behind a drum and cannon, maker’s mark “G & L” below a crescent.

Gold and Enamel Chatelaine Watch

An 18^th Century Scottish verge in a gold and enamel pair case with matching chatelaine. Full plate fire gilt movement, high count train wheels with six spoke crossings and pinions of eight leaves. Pierced and engraved cock, engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, gold beetle and poker hands. Plain gold inner case, the marks indistinct. Gold and enamel outer case, maker’s mark “HB” in a serrated edged rectangle. The bezels with a row of white champleve enamel circles and blue champleve enamel decoration. Central oval cartouche of a classical urn in dark blue translucent champleve enamel bordered with white enamel. Above a tied ribbon of blue enamel and below translucent green champleve enamel of crossed psalm leaves. Fine matching chatelaine, the gilt clip faced with gold decorated in champleve enamel repeating the design on the case. Hanging from the clip are three matching gold faced gilt cartouches joined by gold rings and small enamelled cartouches. The watch secured to the lowest cartouche by a hinge and swivel hinged gilt clip with threaded safety collar. Two further chains of gold rings and small enamelled cartouches also hang from the clip each terminating in a gold spring clip with threaded safety collar. One chain has a gold crank key, now missing the shaft. Fitted in a shaped silk lined case covered in black shagreen.

Pierced and engraved cock, diamond endstone, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. White enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Plain 22 carat inner case, gold pendant and stirrup bow, maker’s mark “DP”. Fine 22 carat gold and enamel outer case. The front bezel decorated in a geometric pattern of white and blue champleve enamel repeated around the back. Central enamel oval cartouche of three cherubs painted “en grisaille” on a pink ground bordered in white champleve enamel. Surrounding the cartouche decoration of translucent green champleve enamel and above a tied ribbon in dark blue enamel. Fine matching chatelaine, the gilt clip faced with gold decorated with a large oval depicting a small cherub seated on an urn flanked by two devils. Pink ground bordered by a band of translucent green champleve enamel and blue and white enamel decoration. Hanging from the clip are three matching gold faced cartouches joined by gold rings and small enamelled cartouches. The watch secured to the lowest cartouche by gilt spring clip. Four further chains of gold rings and small gold and enamelled cartouches also hang from the clip each terminating in a gold spring clip with threaded safety collar. Attached to the outer chains a faceted glass watch key and a gold mounted pink stone egg. Recent maroon morocco covered fitted display box. Lined in grey velvet, the chatelaine visible through the glazed lid, easel stand.

Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. White enamel dial, central white chapter of Roman numerals around which a polychrome enamel scene depicting hounds chasing a stag, Fine gilt beetle and poker hands. Matching silver pair cases, silver pendant and bow, maker’s mark “TC”.

Gold Watch and Diamond Set Ring Mount

A rare late 18^th Century miniature cylinder cylinder watch and diamond set gold ring housing. Very small full plate movement with fusee and chain. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, steel regulator on top plate below the plain three arm gilt balance. Polished steel cylinder, brass escape wheel. Winding through the small white enamel dial, roman numerals, gilt hands. Small plain gold consular case, gold pendant and bow. The front bezel set with a row of small diamonds. Gold ring with a hinged mount for the watch, the back engraved with a monogram. The shank of the ring set with diamonds.

A very rare small movement which measures only 14.3 mm across. Probably the smallest known fusee movement.

Three Colour Gold Verge

A late 18^th Century verge in a stone set three colour gold consular case. Full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Wound through the white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, stone set hands. Attractive 18 carat continental consular case. The back engine turned and decorated with applied three colour gold decoration, the scene framed by an oval border of white stones. Two colour gold bezel also set with a single row of white stones.

Unusually this continental case and dial uses an English movement. It shows no signs of being a replacement, the dial feet occupying the original holes in the plate. It may be the original customer specified an English movement be used or alternatively the English watchmaker imported the case and dial.

White enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, pierced gilt hands. Plain gold inner case with gold pendant and bow, circular gilt shutter to the winding aperture fitted internally, a slot cut to allow it to be moved. Gold outer case, the bezels engraved and decorated with champleve enamel. The back set with fine polychrome enamel portrait of a young lady. Third protective outer case with glazed back, the covering to the gilt bezels now lacking.

The scene and bezel decorated with ferns.
