An 18th Century English verge with subsidiary seconds in gilt metal pair cases. Full plate fire gilt movement with turned pillars. Pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Lateral steel stop lever acting on the contrate wheel. White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, and Arabic numerals, blue steel hands. Gilt metal pair cases, gilt pendant and bow, the inner bearing marks intended to resemble hallmarks.
An early example of a verge with subsidiary seconds. Although some makers introduced watches with seconds shortly after the balance spring was introduced the practice was largely abandoned as the verge escapement was not accurate enough. An 18th Century Swiss verge in paste set gold and enamel pair cases. Full plate fire gilt movement with pentagonal baluster pillars. Pierced and engraved masked cock with garnet endstone, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm gilt balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Signed white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, decorative stone set hands. Plain gold inner case, gold pendant and bow, number corresponding to that on the movement. Gold outer case, the front bezel set with a row of pastes, paste set button. Oval three colour gold cartouche of foliate decoration surrounded by a dark blue enamel border.

Gold and Moss Agate Etui
A mid 18th Century moss agate etui with gold repousse furniture. The two parts of the case constructed from panels of polished moss agate secured by repousse gold bands. Gold bow and large diamond button to open the top. The body houses a pair of gold handled scissors, gold bodkin, gold and steel double ended tweezers and file, pencil and notepad. Also included is a folding razor, the gold blade protected by a gold repousse body with panels of moss agate.

Gold and Enamel Chatelaine Watch
An 18th Century Scottish verge in a gold and enamel pair case with matching chatelaine. Full plate fire gilt movement, high count train wheels with six spoke crossings and pinions of eight leaves. Pierced and engraved cock, engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, gold beetle and poker hands. Plain gold inner case, the marks indistinct. Gold and enamel outer case, maker’s mark “HB” in a serrated edged rectangle. The bezels with a row of white champleve enamel circles and blue champleve enamel decoration. Central oval cartouche of a classical urn in dark blue translucent champleve enamel bordered with white enamel. Above a tied ribbon of blue enamel and below translucent green champleve enamel of crossed psalm leaves. Fine matching chatelaine, the gilt clip faced with gold decorated in champleve enamel repeating the design on the case. Hanging from the clip are three matching gold faced gilt cartouches joined by gold rings and small enamelled cartouches. The watch secured to the lowest cartouche by a hinge and swivel hinged gilt clip with threaded safety collar. Two further chains of gold rings and small enamelled cartouches also hang from the clip each terminating in a gold spring clip with threaded safety collar. One chain has a gold crank key, now missing the shaft. Fitted in a shaped silk lined case covered in black shagreen.

Plain 22 carat inner case, gold pendant and stirrup bow, maker’s mark “DP”. Fine 22 carat gold and enamel outer case. The front bezel decorated in a geometric pattern of white and blue champleve enamel repeated around the back. Central enamel oval cartouche of three cherubs painted “en grisaille” on a pink ground bordered in white champleve enamel. Surrounding the cartouche decoration of translucent green champleve enamel and above a tied ribbon in dark blue enamel. Fine matching chatelaine, the gilt clip faced with gold decorated with a large oval depicting a small cherub seated on an urn flanked by two devils. Pink ground bordered by a band of translucent green champleve enamel and blue and white enamel decoration. Hanging from the clip are three matching gold faced cartouches joined by gold rings and small enamelled cartouches. The watch secured to the lowest cartouche by gilt spring clip. Four further chains of gold rings and small gold and enamelled cartouches also hang from the clip each terminating in a gold spring clip with threaded safety collar. Attached to the outer chains a faceted glass watch key and a gold mounted pink stone egg. Recent maroon morocco covered fitted display box. Lined in grey velvet, the chatelaine visible through the glazed lid, easel stand.

Polished steel cylinder, large brass escape wheel, jewelled pivots. Push pendant quarter repeating on small blocks in the case. Wound through the signed white enamel dial, Roman and Arabic numerals, the signature repeated again engraved on the dial plate edge. Fine diamond set hands. Fine three colour gold consular case set with diamonds. On the back a scene of a couple in a formal garden framed in an oval diamond set border. The two colour gold bezel with a row of diamonds opened by a small concealed pin at the edge. Gold push pendant, diamond set gold bow. Maker’s mark “XG” below a star in a rectangle.

A rare late 18th Century miniature cylinder cylinder watch and diamond set gold ring housing. Very small full plate movement with fusee and chain. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, steel regulator on top plate below the plain three arm gilt balance. Polished steel cylinder, brass escape wheel. Winding through the small white enamel dial, roman numerals, gilt hands. Small plain gold consular case, gold pendant and bow. The front bezel set with a row of small diamonds. Gold ring with a hinged mount for the watch, the back engraved with a monogram. The shank of the ring set with diamonds.

A late 18th Century verge in a stone set three colour gold consular case. Full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Wound through the white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, stone set hands. Attractive 18 carat continental consular case. The back engine turned and decorated with applied three colour gold decoration, the scene framed by an oval border of white stones. Two colour gold bezel also set with a single row of white stones.
Unusually this continental case and dial uses an English movement. It shows no signs of being a replacement, the dial feet occupying the original holes in the plate. Gold consular case, applied two colour gold decoration over a matted ground. Set with a band of small diamonds around the bezel and in the form of a monogram on the back.
