Gunmetal Erotic Automaton Pocket Watch with Unusual Dial
An early 20th Century Swiss cylinder with revolving erotic disc and unusual dial in a gunmetal open face case. Keyless nickelled bar movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Unusual enamel dial, the numerals replaced by representations of the club suit of playing cards from Ace to Queen, pierced gilt hands. Blue steel open face case with gilt bezel, winding crown and bow. On the reverse of the watch is a small glazed aperture through which can be seen a rotating disc bearing photographically reproduced nudes. The disc is mounted to the seconds arbor and so rotates counter clockwise once a minute revealing the four nude pictures in turn.

A rare early 20th Century American art deco watch combined with a cigar cutter. Circular nickelled three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Oval white metal dial with Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Gold rectangular case with canted corners inlaid with stripes of platinum. Small aperture in one corner of the back, the cutter operated by a slide in the edge. Unusual latch to release the button for setting the hands. The inside of the back marked “14K & Plat – Pat. Apr. 16. 12”.

Two Day Master Chronometer by Kullberg
A 20th Century English two day marine chronometer by Kullberg with added timing contacts. Full plate spotted keywind reverse fusee movement marked with the broad ministry arrow, four turned pillars secured by blue steel screws. Harrison's maintaining power with steel click and blue steel spring. Blue steel barrel ratchet wheel and double toothed click on the spotted barrel bridge. Spotted cock with diamond endstone, two arm compensation balance with two circular weights and auxiliary temperature compensation, small timing screws and large timing nuts, freesprung palladium helical hairspring. Earnshaw spring detent escapement, escape pivots with endstones. The movement secured to the gilt dial plate by three brass screws. Engraved signed and numbered silvered brass dial with broad ministry arrow, subsidiaries for seconds and power reserve indication, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Details added by T & F Mercer when the electrical contacts were added in 1928 and the dial cut away by the seconds subsidiary to accommodate them. Fitted in a circular metal case with sprung rotating shutter to the winding hole in the base, push fit chrome bezel with flat glass. Slide to stop and start the balance. External one second contacts and contacts for the microphone on the side of case to allow the chronometer to be used as a master device for slave dials. Push fit copper lid marked “T & F Mercer – St Albans Eng. Octo”.
The extracts are from the records at Greenwich which show it was bought in Nov 1915 for £37. It was sold by MOD Tender on 29 Jan 1980. The Digest Page notes the contacts were fitted in 1920/1921. The date of conversion suggests that it was done at about the time that Mercers were working on control and slave clocks for ships. Victor Kullberg was born in Sweden in 1824 and moved to London in 1851 where he established a business making fine watches and chronometers. In addition to selling under his own name he also supplied to many English retailers. He almost always used the fusee in a reverse configuration to reduce friction and wear on the arbors. He experimented with balances on his chronometers patenting flat rim varieties. His chronometers won many medals for their timekeeping in the later half of the 19th Century. American Masonic Lever and Unusual Spinning Fob
An early 19th Century American lever in an enamelled rolled gold case and unusual spinning fob. Nickelled split three quarter plate keyless 15 jewel movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel micrometer regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Rolled gold open face case with screw bezel and back marked “Illinois Watch Case Co. Elgin Guaranteed 25 years”. The back with blue and white enamel engraved with a Masonic set square and compass. Gilt rope chain, a “T” bar at one end and spring clip at the other. In the centre an unusual fob, the circular disc rotating in a semi circular frame marked “Pat.Pend.”. The faces of the disc with an apparently abstract pattern in dark blue enamel. However when the disc is spun the pattern can be seen to show the Masonic set square and compass.

Alarm striking on a single steel gong with a large polished steel hammer. White enamel dial with subsidiaries for seconds and alarm set, red indication for the alarm set pin, Arabic numerals, luminous hands. Plain gunmetal open face case, the back opening to form an easel stand. Gilt hand sets, hinge, thumb piece, winding button and bow. Plain gunmetal cuvette.

Numbered turned brass bowl, sprung rotating shutter to the winding hole, screw brass bezel with flat glass. Brass gimbals and locking mechanism, brass ratchet key. Three tier mahogany box, brass straps and corners, hinged flush brass handles. Signed and numbered circular plaque.

Silver Borgel Cased Trench Watch
An early 20th Century Swiss lever in a patent silver Borgel wristwatch case. Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, uncut bimetallic balance with spiral hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Arabic numerals, the twelve in red, luminous hands. Patent Borgel silver wristwatch case, the movement fitted to a threaded brass carrier and screwed into the case, ribbed bezel. Maker's mark “FGT” in a rectangle overstruck with Borgel's mark “F.B.” above a key.
Fran�ois Borgel first patented his design for a watch case in 1891. It was an early attempt to make watches resistant to dust and moisture. The case back and middle part are in one piece and threaded internally. The movement, complete with dial and hands, is mounted in carrier ring. The bezel with glass is used to extract it once the button has been pulled out against its spring. Borgel screw cases have been used by a number of manufacturers included Longines and the International Watch Co.
