An early 20th Century English lever deck watch in a silver open face case. Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with broad Ministry of Defence broad arrow. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Screwed in jewelling. English table roller lever escapement. Signed white enamel dial with Ministry of Defence broad arrow, subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Plain silver open face case, maker's mark “WB” in a rectangle and number corresponding to that on the movement.

Rare English Six Minute Tourbillion
A fine large early 20th Century English tourbillion in a silver open face case and deck box. Gilt half plate keyless movement with going barrel. Rare flying 6 minute tourbillion carriage rotating once every six minutes. Plain cock with diamond endstone. Compensation balance with freesprung blue steel overcoil hairspring. English table roller lever escapement. Screwed in jewelling, escape and lever pivots with endstones. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Substantial plain silver open face case with gold hand set, hinge and thumb pieces, gilt winding button, silver bow. Maker's mark “W.B” in a rectangle and number corresponding to that on the movement. Fitted in a three tier mahogany deck box with brass furniture, signed and numbered circular bone plaque on the lid. Two spare flat glass crystals.
A very rare variation on the tourbillion rotating escapement. Although the carriage resembles that of a centre seconds karrusel it is directly driven by the train. The carriage of a karrusel is passively rotated by one of the train wheels. This carriage rotates more slowly than a one minute tourbillion as it also carries the fourth wheel. Examples of this form of tourbillion are very rare, this example being in excellent condition and benefiting from having a deck box. An early 20th Century Swiss buttonhole lapel watch in a gold case. Gilt keyless bar movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Small white enamel dial with gilt minute markings and black Arabic numerals, the number twelve in red, blue steel hands. Gold 9 carat case, the movement housed in the larger section worn behind the lapel. The narrow neck of the case houses the cannon pinion and supports the dial set under a glazed bezel.

A substantial early 20th Century split seconds chronograph by Nicole Nielsen in a gold full hunter case. Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel under a raised section of the plate. Screwed in jewelling. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, diamond endstone. Compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement, escape and lever pivots with endstones. Signed white enamel dial with split centre seconds chronograph. Subsidiaries for sixty minute record and continuous seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands, gilt split seconds hand. Very substantial plain 18 carat full hunter case, buttons in the band for the chronograph and split seconds disabled when the front cover is closed. Plain gold cuvette, maker's mark “RN” in a rectangle and number corresponding to that on the movement.
A handsome example of early 20th Century English watchmaking. Although the firm of Nicole Nielsen produced a large number of high quality watches from the late 19th to the early 20th Century very few watches bearing their own name survive. Engraved bridge cock to the left of the dial, polished steel regulator. Uncut bimetallic balance with overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. In excellent overall condition. The use of a Willis dial and English case demonstrates the various ways in which watches were manufactured at this period. The shop has since changed use but Jays clock still hangs outside 366 Essex Road showing that Jays were established in 1862. An early 20th Century Swiss eight day lever in a nickle open face case fitted in an unusual silver oval case. Gilt split three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. White enamel dial signed by the retailer, subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Substantial plain open face case with gilt winding button. Unusual large plain silver English keep case. Plain convex hinged lid with aperture for the dial, engraved motif of a bird below, gilt interior. Silver oval frame for the base , maker's mark “H Brs” in a shield. Loose silvered metal slip plate drilled to allow the case to be fixed in position. Lined with green velvet.

White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, blue steel hands. Fine tortoiseshell travelling case, silver gilt mounts engraved “Asprey London”. Inlaid gold decoration on one cover. The watch in a tortoiseshell hinged section opening to form a clock. Gilt screw bezel, winding button and folding lever for the quarter repeat.
