Gold and Plique a Jour Crucifix
An unusual late 19th Century Swiss cylinder in a gold crucifix case set with plique a jour. Cross shaped keywind gilt bar movement with suspended going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Small circular white enamel dial with Roman numerals, pierced gilt hands. Unusual crucifix shaped 14 carat gold case profusely engraved and depicting a cross on the hinged back cover. The front cover over the dial finely pierced and decorated with multi coloured plique a jour. Pierced and engraved gold mask over the movement, keyhole aperture revealing the balance and cock.
An unusual watch in excellent overall condition. Plique a jour is seldom found on watches, partly due to its delicate nature. Translated as “open to light”, it is a technique producing translucent enamels held in an open framework, the effect is not unlike a stained-glass window in miniature.Circa 1880£6,750.00 Read more -

Gold and Enamel Beetle Form Watch
A fine late 19th Century Swiss gold and enamel brooch watch in the form of a beetle. Keyless gilt bar movement with suspended going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Small white enamel dial with Roman numerals, the twelve marked in red, blue steel hands. Fine gold and enamel case in the form of a beetle, the diamond set translucent green enamel wings opened by depressing a button in the tail to reveal the dial. Diamond set chased and engraved head, the eyes represented by diamonds, small gilt winding crown. The underside of the beetle realistically portrayed with finely chased and engraved legs applied to the hinged cover. Inside the cover an oval glazed frame for a miniature portrait Diamond set gold and enamel loop for a chain.

Horn Singing Bird Box
A late 19th Century Swiss automated singing bird in a horn box . Brass movement keywound through the base. Bellows and piston mechanism to vary the song of the bird. . The bird covered in iridescent humming bird feathers. Moving the gilt lateral slide on the front of the box causes the repousse gilt oval lid to open and the bird to hinge into an upright position. It starts its song, rotates left and right, flaps its wings, rotates its head and open and closes its beak. Moving the slide to the left folds the bird back into the case and the lid closes. Horn box with a compartment at the back with a hinged horn lid. The top of oval gilt hinged cover to the bird decorated with a chased and engraved putti attending to a large birdcage.

A late 19th Century Swiss cylinder in a stone set gold and enamel full hunter case. Keyless gilt bar movement with going barrel, frosted steel wolfs teeth winding work. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Signed white enamel dial with Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Gold full hunter case with engraved middle and trefoil bow. The front lid covered in black enamel with a border of small split pearls and garnets. Within this a band of floral decoration set with diamonds and a raised dome in the centre also set with diamonds. The back cover similarly decorated but the centre flat and decorated with garnets and diamonds. Plain gold cuvette.

A late 19th Century Swiss quarter repeating lever with chronograph and moonphase calendar in a gold full hunter case. Damascened nickelled split three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Polished steel flyback chronograph work above the plates. Push quarter repeating on two steel gongs, visible regulator to the repeating train. White enamel dial with flyback centre seconds chronograph. Subsidiaries for date and seconds combined with the moonphase below. Rectangular apertures for day and month in Russian either side of the centre, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hands, gilt hands. Very substantial engine turned 14 carat gold full hunter case, small monogram in the centre of the front cover. Large push button for the minute repeat and a smaller one for the chronograph in the band.

Straight line lever escapement, escape and lever pivots with endstones in gold settings. White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, fine blue steel Breguet hands. Substantial engine turned 18 carat gold full hunter case. Small hand set lever under the front cover released when the front cover is closed. Signed gold cuvette, number corresponding to that on the movement.

Gold Keyless Fusee by Kullberg
A late 19th Century English keyless reverse fusee freesprung lever with power reserve by Victor Kullberg in a gold half hunter case. Gilt half plate keyless movement with fusee and chain. Harrison's maintaining power. Plain cock with diamond endstone. Compensation balance with quarter timing nuts, freesprung blue steel overcoil hairspring. English double roller lever escapement. Screwed in jewelling, including the fusee, the escape wheel and lever under a bridge, their pivots with endstones. White enamel dial with subsidiaries for power reserve and seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel half hunter hands. Substantial plain 18 carat half hunter case with blue enamel chapter ring, two flysprings to the front cover. Winding and set apertures to the plain gold cuvette. Maker's mark “PW” in an oval and number corresponding to that on the movement.
The Army and Navy stores retailed watches from their store in Westminster predominantly sourcing them from high quality English watchmakers of the period. Silver Burdess Patent Winding Lever
A late 19th Century English lever with Burdess patent winding in a silver open face case. Full plate gilt movement with dust ring hinging from the case. Fusee and chain with Harrison's maintaining power. Engraved gilt cock with garnet endstone, blue steel Boselyregulator. Compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. English table roller lever. The winding lever protrudes through the inner dome of the case, engaging a ratchet mounted on the fusee square via a sprung pawl. The watch is wound by moving this lever backwards and forwards. The hands set by moving a wheel at the edge of the dial. White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, blue steel hands. Engine turned silver open face case with ribbed middle. The back cover which is decorated with a vacant cartouche set within a circle is opened by depressing a button in the pendant. Maker's mark “EH” and number corresponding to that on the movement.
An excellent early example of one of these patent keyless English lever watches which have become scarce in recent years. Adam Burdess took out his patent only a year before this watch was made. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Decorative 14 carat full hunter case, flat engine turned covers engraved with foliage and a bird, the front with a vacant shield shaped cartouche. Plain middle, engraved box hinges and shaped support for the pendant, maker's mark “C.W.Mfg.Co”. Gold cuvette with engraved dedication.
