A 19^th Century Swiss cylinder in a gold and enamel open face case. Keywind gilt Lepine calibre movement with suspended going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel Breguet hands. Engraved 18 carat open face case, the back with a cartouche of translucent dark blue enamel over an engine turned ground, gilt floral decoration. Wound and set through the signed engine turned gold cuvette, maker's mark “FD” in an oval.

In excellent overall condition. Stamped “Bergeon” under the dial, perhaps an ebauche from the company now famous for producing horological tools

Keywind Lever in Rare Cabriolet Gold Case

A large late 19^th Century lever in a rare reversible cabriolet gold hunter pair case. Keywind gilt bar movement with suspended going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Club foot lever escapement, polished steel escape wheel. White enamel dial signed “BWCo”, subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, decorative gilt hands. Rare heavy 18 carat cabriolet case which can be used either as a full hunter or as an open face. The inner gold case with florally engraved back and plain middle. Wound and set through the signed gold cuvette, gold button in the pendant to open the back. This can be used on its own or placed in the three section gold outer case with either the dial or back visible. When the dial is shown the watch still appears to be a conventional open face watch with the engraved back depicting a Scottish hunting scene. Alternatively with the florally engraved back of the inner visible the watch becomes a full hunter, the button in the pendant serving to open the front cover.

Signed white enamel dial, subsidiary seconds offset at nine o'clock, Roman numerals, blue steel half hunter hands. Plain 18 carat half hunter case with blue enamel chapter ring secured by three gold screws. Clip on back, maker's mark “AN” in an oval and number corresponding to that on the movement.

Nicole Nielsen manufactured for many of the eminent watchmaking firms in the second half of the 19th Century. Some were also retailed in other countries such as Australia and America, Tiffanys being one of their principal customers. Adolphe Nicole took out the patent for keyless winding number 10,348 in 1844.

Seperate independent train for the centre seconds hand which jumps once each second. Off white enamel dial with continuous subsidiary seconds and independent jump centre seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Plain 18 carat open face case, small slide in the band to start and stop the independent seconds. Wound and set through the gold cuvette, dedication on the inside of the back lid, maker's mark “SQ” in a shield.

Unusual for a Swiss Independent seconds movement to be cased by Samuel Quilliam who is most noted for producing slow beat lever watches for Joseph Yates
