A mid 19^th Century English centre seconds fusee lever by Frodsham in a gold open face case. Gilt three quarter plate keywind movement with fusee and chain. Harrison's maintaining power. Engraved cock with polished steel regulator, diamond endstone. Compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. English table roller lever escapement, escape, lever and centre seconds pivots with endstones. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with centre seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Plain 18 carat open face case, monogram on the back cover. Wound and set through the gold dome, maker's mark “JB” in an oval and number corresponding to that on the movement.

Small Gold Keyless Fusee Lever Pocket Watch

An unusually small 19th Century English keyless fusee lever in a gold open face case. Gilt half plate keyless movement with fusee and chain. Harrison's maintaining power. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, silver sector index on the main plate. Compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. English table roller lever escapement. Gold dial with decoratively engraved centre, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Plain 18 carat open face case, a monogram on the back. Single back lid engraved inside with the date “29th May 1878”, maker's mark “W.R” and number corresponding to that on the movement.

This watch is a very small size for a keyless fusee. Interestingly the number in the case has been altered. It is a fractional number and the “2” has been left with the lower figures, “579” carefully struck through and replaced with “683”. This may have been due to a mistake or perhaps the original movement was changed by the makers.

Pierced and engraved round cock, steel regulator on top plate below the plain three arm steel balance. White enamel dial, the centre painted with a polychrome enamel rural scene of a farmer ploughing a field with two horses, a church in the background. Roman numerals, gold hands. Matching silver pair cases, silver oval pendant and bow. Maker’s mark “PW” and number corresponding to that on the movement.

A late 19^th Century Swiss buttonhole lapel watch in a gilt metal case. Keywind gilt bar movement with suspended going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, uncut bimetallic balance with spiral hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Very small dial with Arabic numerals, blue steel hands. Gilt metal case with clip on back, the movement housed in the larger section worn behind the lapel. The narrow neck of the case houses the cannon pinion and supports the dial.

The dial unusually small, perhaps to encourage a close approach to read it

Keywind Lever Pocket Watch in Rare Cabriolet Gold Case

A late 19^th Century lever in a rare reversible cabriolet gold hunter pair case. Gilt three quarter plate keywind movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, plain three arm blue steel balance with gilt timing screws, blue steel spiral hairspring. Club foot lever escapement, polished steel escape wheel. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, gilt hands. Rare 18 carat cabriolet case which can be used either as a full hunter or as an open face. The inner gold case with florally engraved back and engine turned middle. Wound and set through the gold cuvette, gold button in the pendant to open the back. This can be used on its own or placed in the three section gold outer case with either the dial or back visible. When the dial is shown the watch still appears to be a conventional open face watch with the engraved back depicting a scene of a young girl and dog. Alternatively with the florally engraved back of the inner visible the watch becomes a full hunter, the button in the pendant serving to open the front cover.

Gold hinged back engraved with a monogram, maker's mark “JM” in an oval.

Kullberg manufactured watches for many of the best makers in the late 19th Century. This particular model with a reverse keyless fusee and escape and lever under a bridge was often used

Bronze and Ormolu Clock

An unusual 19^th Century French striking clock in an ormolu case supported by bronze bears. Small circular brass eight day movement stamped “JD”. Two going barrels. Rear mounted platform, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Hour and half hour striking on a small bell. Engraved gilt dial with Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Oval ormolu base on which stand two bronze bears supporting the circular ormolu clock case. Lying on top of the clock a third bronze bear holding a gilt tapping screw and wearing an apron. One of the bears at the base also wearing an apron from which hangs a hammer, the other bear with an axe.

An unusual clock with very well modelled bronze figures. The amusing theatrical bears apparently dressed as builders reminiscent of Russian bears

A 19^th Century Swiss cylinder in a pearl and hardstone cameo set watch and chatelaine. Keyless gilt bar movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. White enamel dial with blue Roman and Arabic numerals, pierced gilt hands. Small gold open face case with plain gold cuvette. Pearl set front bezel and bow. Clip on back, the gold bezel set with a row of split pearls around a circular brown hardstone cut away to depict a seated classically dressed woman. Joined to the rectangular buckle by a short diamond set gallery. Decorated in a similar fashion to the back of the watch the buckle has a gilt metal clip and a horizontal gold pin to allow it to be used as a brooch. Glazed morocco display case lined with blue velvet.

Small gold open face case with prominent box hinges, gold cuvette. The back with an offset polychrome enamel scene in 18th Century style depicting a cherub and cupid and bordered by a row of split pearls. Above this applied chased and engraved gold foliate decoration on a dark blue enamel ground. Tapering gold links attach the watch to the buckle which has a gold clip engraved with a dedication and two gold pins to allow it to also be worn as a brooch. The buckle is decorated to match the watch, the scene depicts a single cherub catching fish.

Signed gold cuvette engraved with details of the movement, gold repeating slide in the band.

A rare watch in excellent condition. Despite their practicality few five minute repeaters were produced. The hours are struck on one gong and a blow for each five minutes past the hour on e the other gong
