Rare Pull Repeat Cylinder
An early 19th Century French cylinder with rare pull repeat in a gold open face case. Keywind gilt Lepine calibre movement with suspended going barrel and visible blue steel repeating mainspring. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. Diamond endstone. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Pull pendant quarter repeating on two rectangular section polished steel gongs. Fine signed gold engine turned dial, white enamel chapter of Arabic numerals, blue steel Breguet hands. Substantial plain 18 carat open face case with ribbed middle, wound through the signed and numbered gilt cuvette. A small button in the band is pressed to allow the pendant to be pulled to activate the repeat.
An attractive and rare well made watch. Some effort has been devoted in the manufacture of the mechanism to stop the pendant being pulled accidentally. Unlike a normal push repeat there would have been a danger that the time would be stuck unintentionally if the safety button in the band had not been added. The advantage to the user of having a pull repeat is that the watch does not have a long pendant and would sit more easily in the pocketCirca 1820£7,000.00 Read more -
