A late 18^th Century continental calendar verge with fine polychrome enamel painted dial in a gold consular case. Full plate gilt fusee movement. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Enamel dial with subsidiaries for time and date with Arabic numerals, surrounded by a very finely painted scene of an unclothed couple marking their names on a tree, gold hands. Plain gold consular case with substantial pendant and bow.

Rare Knife Grinder Automaton Pocket Watch

A rare late 19^th Century Swiss quarter repeating verge knife grinder automaton in a gold open face case. Full plate gilt fusee movement. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with polished steel indicator. Push pendant quarter repeating on two steel gongs. White enamel ring dial of Arabic numerals surrounding the central scene, blue steel Breguet hands. Blue steel ground with finely chased and engraved parcel gilt scene depicting two cupids on a brick bridge. As the watch strikes the hours and quarters the arms of the figures move as though striking the bells between them. In the arch of the bridge are two figures shown sharpening knives. When the repeat is operated the figure on the left lowers the knife to the grinding wheel which rotates, apparently belt driven by a large wheel turned by the boy on the right. When the watch has finished repeating the man lifts the knife from the wheel, ready for the next time. Fine engine turned 18 carat open face case, sprung signed gilt cuvette inset with chased and engraved parcel gilt repousse plate of Apollo playing his lyre.

Gold Eight Day Calendar

An unusual late 18^th Century French eight day cylinder with calendar in a gold consular case. Full plate gilt fusee movement, the back plain with the exception of the signed raised centre. Polished steel cylinder, small brass escape wheel, the balance situated under the dial. Round pillars with vacant threaded holes. Wound through the restored signed white enamel dial of unusual design. The upper half of the dial marked in Arabic numerals from seven through twelve to six repeated in the lower half in Roman numerals. The minutes also marked twice and the hand rotating once every two hours. Subsidiaries for the date and regulation of the watch, blue steel hands. Plain 18 carat gold consular case.

An unusual dial layout probably to represent the hours of night and day. The eight day duration achieved without the use of an extra train wheel by virtue of a high count on the fusee wheel and small centre pinion together with the minute hand needing to rotate only twelve times a day rather than the more usual twenty four. The fusee performs one revolution a day and has eight turns
