A sublime Breguet pocket watch, one of the many antique watches from their collection which was formerly owned by Charles-Louis Havas, founder of news wire Agence France-Presse (AFP), will launch Christie’s Rare Watches auction on 16 May 2016 at the Four Season Hotel des Bergues in Geneva.
The Breguet pocket watch in question is the main lot from 276 set to go under the hammer, with the collection anticipated to sell for a total of as much as £11.9 million.
There will be a range of pieces from several important private collections that will go up for auction, along with classics including a selection of complicated Patek Philippe watches made between over the seventy years between the 1940’s and 2012. Additionally, an important assortment of Rolex sports watches will be on offer, as well as a number of important timepieces signed by Breguet.
Head of department and main watch auctioneer, Thomas Perazzi, recently stated: “We are delighted to present our Spring auction which includes 276 carefully selected high quality timepieces manufactured between the 18th century and the 21th century by the world’s foremost watchmakers. The sale offers a diversified range of watches often appearing for the first time in public and sourced from distinguished private collections.”
