A mid 19th Century Swiss quarter repeating cylinder by Vacheron and Constantin in an engine turned open face case. Keywind gilt bar movement with suspended going barrel. Plain cock with blue steel regulator, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Push pendant quarter repeating on two polished steel gongs. Engine turned silver dial, subsidiary seconds offset at four o’clock, Roman numerals, gold Breguet hands. Fine 18 carat gold open face case with chased and engraved bezels, push pendant and bow. Engine turned back with a vacant shield shaped cartouche. Wound and set through the signed gold cuvette engraved with details of the movement. Unusual gold key in the form of a mortice lock key. In a small horn presentation case marked “E.L – 14 Febb 1882”.
