Description

A rare late 19th Century English centre seconds lever with jumping quarter seconds in a silver open face case.  Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement, barrel setup click and ratchet visible through the gilt dust cover.  Harrison's maintaining power.  Engraved cock with diamond endstone, polished steel regulator with silver sector index.  Compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  English table roller lever escapement, screwed in jewelling, escape and lever pivots with endstones.  Signed white enamel dial with centre seconds Roman numerals, blue steel gold hands.  Subsidiary for jumping quarter seconds, the hand rotating once a second, stopping briefly at the quarters.   Plain silver open face case, lateral steel stop lever under the front bezel.  Maker's mark “JF” and number corresponding to that on the movement.

The jumping quarter seconds feature is rare, found almost exclusively on Swiss independent seconds watches.  This is the only example we have seen in a English lever where it runs directly from the going train.
