Plain cock with blue steel regulator, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Engine turned silver dial with an engraved scene to the centre, subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, gilt hands. Engine turned 18 carat open face case, small circular cartouche on the back engraved with a monogram and crown above. Engine turned middle, wound and set through the gilt metal cuvette.

Gold Pair Case by Windmills

An 18^th Century verge by Windmills in gold pair case set with a cornelian. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved winged cock with mask, pierced and engraved foot. Plain gilt balance, silver regulator disc. Fine white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Plain gold inner case, gold pendant and stirrup bow, number corresponding to that on the movement. Gold outer case, the back set with a cabochon cornelian stone.

In excellent overall condition. Close inspection shows that the dial is that originally fitted rather than a replacement for a champleve one. It is a fine early example. Thomas Windmills, son of Joseph. Apprenticed 1686, free of the clockmakers Company 1695 and Master 1719 – 32

Plain cock with diamond endstone. Compensation balance, freesprung blue steel overcoil hairspring. English table roller lever escapement. Screwed in jewelling, escape and lever pivots with endstones. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiaries for power reserve and seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel half hunter hands. Substantial plain 18 carat half hunter case with blue enamel chapter ring, two flysprings to the front cover. Monogram engraved on the back of a dragons head in an oval surmounted by a five pointed crown. Plain gold cuvette. Maker's mark “AS” in an rectangle and number corresponding to that on the movement.
