A late 18th Century Swiss Chinese market centre seconds cylinder in a gold and enamel open face case with matching chain. Keywind gilt movement, suspended going barrel with polished steel stopwork. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. White enamel centre seconds dial, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hand, gold hands. Pearl set 18 carat open face case, the back of plain light blue enamel, gilt decoration to the edges and centre. Bordered by green iridescent decoration, red dots at the quarters. Bezels set with split pearls within bands of dark blue enamel. The matted middle with applied gold decoration, light blue and red enamel. Matching gold and enamel Macaroni chatelaine decorated on both sides, four suspended chains each with an accessory.
An attractive piece. Hookless Macaroni chatelaines decorated on both sides are uncommon. They came into fashion in the early 1770's intended to be worn over a belt, the two ends hanging down.
