Description

An unusual late 18th Century French eight day cylinder with calendar in a gold consular case.  Full plate gilt fusee movement, the back plain with the exception of the signed raised centre.  Polished steel cylinder, small brass escape wheel, the balance situated  under the dial.  Round pillars with vacant threaded holes.  Wound through the restored signed white enamel dial of unusual design.  The upper half of the dial marked in Arabic numerals from seven through twelve to six repeated in the lower half in Roman numerals.  The minutes also marked twice and the hand rotating once every two hours.  Subsidiaries for the date and regulation of the watch, blue steel hands.  Plain 18 carat gold consular case.

An unusual dial layout probably to represent the hours of night and day.  The eight day duration achieved without the use of an extra train wheel by virtue of a high count on the fusee wheel and small centre pinion together with the minute hand needing to rotate only twelve times a day rather than the more usual twenty four.  The fusee performs one revolution a day and has eight turns
