Description

An early 20th Century eight day American lever in an unusual desk stand.  Damascened nickelled three quarter plate fifteen jewel keyless movement with two going barrels.  Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring.  Club foot lever escapement, screwed in jewelling.  Signed silvered dial with power reserve indication.   Subsidiary seconds, Arabic numerals, blue steel hands.  Nickelled circular case, screwed front bezel and plain hinged back.  Mounted between two turned columns the watch can be swivelled, nickelled circular base

Waltham produced these eight day movements which were most commonly used mounted in the dashboard of cars.  The majority were of a lower jewel count.  The principal of using two barrels to drive a single pinion was introduced by Breguet, the main purpose being to provide a smoother transition of power by synchronising the position of the teeth.  Some included a wind indicator, as in this example, where a red marker appears after seven days when the watch needs winding
