Description

An unusual mid 20^th Century bezel wound Swiss lever two day marine chronometer in a brass bound mahogany box.  Spotted gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with large going barrel. Unusual construction with a substantial steel winding wheel attached to the centre of the bowl housing the movement.  This bowl is free to rotate around the movement aided by five sprung ball bearings at its edge. Subsidiary platform for the escapement, plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring.  Club foot lever escapement, escape and lever pivots with endstones.  Signed silvered brass dial, subsidiaries for seconds and power reserve indication.  Large Arabic numerals for the hours one to twelve and small numerals in the minute ring for thirteen to twenty four, blue steel hands.   Plain brass bezel which is turned to wind the clock.  This bezel is raised and turned to adjust the hands. Brass gimbals and locking mechanism.  Two tier brass bound mahogany box with shallow top lid.
